Ionotec Ltd.
Profile: Ionotec Ltd. specializes in conductive ceramics, ceramic coatings, sodium battery technology, electrochemical applications, and in ceramic-metal joining. We manufacture ion-conductive ceramic membranes in various shapes and sizes. The ceramic material is usually beta-alumina, a hard dense polycrystalline ceramic in which the mobile ion may be sodium (Na+), potassium (K+), silver (Ag+), lead (Pb2+), and strontium (Sr2+)/barium(Ba2+). We also supply other types of conductive ceramics like lithium (Li+) conductors, oxygen ion (O2-) conductors, and electron-conductive ceramics. We produce conductive, resistive and insulating coatings on ceramic & metal substrates tailored to specific needs such as electrical isolation, thermal insulation, and protection against chemical corrosion. Our fabrication technology for ceramics, coatings and thin films is based primarily on electrodeposition/electrophoretic deposition. The electrophoretic deposition (EPD) is used to build up thick films of ceramic material from suspensions of particles in a liquid. In this process, the charged particles migrate to an electrode of opposite sign under an electric field. Usually one charge (+ or -) dominates so that only one electrode is coated or plated. We make use of our research ideas in the industrial production. Our pilot scale deposition facilities involve semi-automatic operation with accurate deposit thickness control. Our suspension & solution handling systems can be either water-based or solvent-based, and these are specially designed to remove air bubbles that cause defects in the product. Uniform or graduated thickness as required is done by the control of electric field strength & fluid flow to avoid stagnation points and the full sequencing of operations is provided by a PLC.
