Huayuan Chemical Company Limited (former Zhangjiagang Fertilizer Factory) is a core enterprise of Jiangsu Huachang Group Limited. It is mainly involved in the manufacture of basic chemicals, fine chemicals and biochemicals. After more than thirty years of development, Huayuan Chemical has reached a considerable scale, having a fixed assets of 180 million RMB and a total staff of beyond 1200, including more than 200 technical engineers. It now produces annually 150,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 300,000 tons of soda ash, 300,000 tons of ammonium chloride, 300,000 tons of compound fertilizer, 1,000 tons of hexahydro-1H-azapine, amino acids and other related products. The products have been well accepted by customers in China, and in Southeast Asia, South Korea and other countries. In the year 2002, Huayuan Chemical's sales and net income before taxes were 450 million RMB and 90 million RMB respectively. Huayuan Chemical has a high reputation in the industry. It has received many honors from government and industry authorities in the past years,. It became one of the top 100 chemical enterprises in China in 1993 and has been enlisted every year since then. It passed ISO9001:2000 certification in 2002. Huayuan Chemical addresses strong concerns about environmental friendly manufacture. It has been leading the industry in terms of unit energy consumption. Two of its proprietary technologies---low heating-value cinder burner and closed-circuit recycling of gas-producing effluent, have been promoted industry-wide by the Ministry of Chemical Industry. By the year 2003, a new 150-hectare production site will be built in Yangtze River International Chemical Industry Park, capable of producing annually, when fully established, 600,000 tons of synthetic ammonia, 600,000 tons of soda ash, 660,000 tons of ammonium chloride, 600,000 tons of urea, 1,000,000 tons of compound fertilizer, 100,000 tons of methanol, 20,000 tons of dimethyl carbonate, 20,000 tons of propanediol, 3,000 tons of hexahydro-1H-azepine, 500 tons of sodium bornhydride and 1,000 tons of biochemical products, which in total is estimated to amount for 5 billion RMB of sales income and half billion RMB of net income.
